Outpatient Treatment Program
Dr. Erwin offers treatment sessions that can be scheduled at any frequency. The speed and effectiveness of treatment is maximized with weekly appointments. Once progress has been made, sessions to maintain treatment gains can be scheduled less frequently. Clients might, for a variety of reasons, request less frequent treatment sessions from the start. These clients certainly can be accommodated. Dr. Erwin will travel to meet clients when necessary. With written consent, Dr. Erwin collaborates actively with other treatment providers and schools. Active collaboration with other treatment providers and schools results in more effective treatment.
Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program
Clients with severe anxiety or who are in a crisis may need to receive treatment multiple times a week. For such clients, Dr. Erwin offers an intensive treatment program, which is short-term and is designed to treat anxiety and related problems aggressively to bring these clients relief.
The Anxiety and OCD Center offers the only group treatment program in the area specifically for the treatment of anxious children and adolescents, and not for behavior difficulties. Parents for years have been requesting such a group since they find other group settings give their children “too much of an education.”
Group treatment has the advantage of cost effective anxiety treatment among groups of peers. Kids love the fact that they feel understood, like they aren’t the only one, and that their worry is fixed. Parents value the fact that anxiety is treated with well-studied and effective cognitive-behavioral strategies and that the focus of the group is specifically anxiety treatment and not behavior problems.
Group treatment for children with anxiety is for children between ages 8 and 13. Group treatment for adolescents with anxiety is for adolescents between ages 14 and 18.
Brigette Erwin, PhD, cognitive-behavioral psychologist and expert in anxiety and stress management, provides treatment. The first session is an individual assessment with Dr. Erwin. Group treatment will then run 2 hours per week for 8 weeks. A waiting list will be established. Groups will begin and a schedule will be determined once a group is full.
